In 2020 Bay Area Miata Association (BAMA) celebrated its 30th anniversary. The 30thAnniversary Drive and show, postponed till 2021, drew twice the number of Miata owners as most events.
First stop, Harley Goat Farms in Pescadero, who offered parking space for the Show & Shine, plus an array of farm-made cheeses and other picnic goodies.
What’s Show & Shine? Voting for the best cars in various categories over 4 generations and 32 years of production. I’m a Miata newby, so just admired them all.
No shortage of red cars here, in all Miata generations. Lightweight, reliable, and affordable, Miatas are popular among the quirky and less-than-wealthy.
Customizations abound. One car flies Italian flags fore and aft. Orange Miata just acquired the signature of Miata designer Tom Matano, surprise guest at the event.
The SHINE part of Show & Shine. Weather was perfect for catching reflections, a photographer’s dream. The burgundy metal flake paint has intense depth!
This car is black. All black. Door handles, mirror, hubcaps, even the Mazda logo on front hood. A unique beauty, which won a Show & Shine award.
A friendly young driver was surprised that I wanted to photograph her customizations. But how fun is this? You wouldn’t see it on a Porsche.
Upscale waterproof seat covers are a practical necessity when our fellow Santa Cruz driver visits the beach. Or maybe they’re more for fun than function.
Handmade pillow adds style and enjoyment. The passenger’s sister painted an exact duplicate of hubby’s car, complete with rear view on opposite cushion side, for her sister's comfort.

Next leg of the Anniversary drive: short trip from Pescadero to the ocean. A tricky left turn onto Highway 1 temporarily splits up the Miata parade.
Pilgrimage to Pigeon Point and the tallest lighthouse on the US West Coast. Built in 1871, its beam still operates daily. Perfect sunny, breezy day to explore the coastline on foot.
